My house is a red brick Victorian mid terrace. I bought it over 20 years ago and noticed mild rising damp in both the lounge and dining room many years ago but couldn't face dealing with it. As a single working mum with a physical health problem I was able to get a grant last year for new external doors. The doors provide much better insulation but soon after fitting black mold developed over the damp. In a real panic I asked the council for advice. An environmental health officer visited and said it would be months of work costing way more than their 15k healthy homes loan and to pay to get a damp survey done. I felt desperate after their visit. Eventually I pulled myself together and searched the Web and found this firm with all their good reviews on Checkatrade. Paul was fantastic - really knowledgeable and recommended a damp proof course in both rooms. The work took 3 days and cost 1.5k. On his advice my daughter and I went away while it was being done. I came home to a clean and tidy house and 10 days later the new plaster is drying out very well. It is such a huge weight off my mind. It was a bit of an upheaval but I just moved everything to the non damp side of the room and covered it with dust sheets.
